INDOMETHACIN - ORAL CAPSULE, TABLET (in-doh-METH-uh-sin) COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Indocin USES: Indomethacin treats the pain, swelling and stiffness associated with arthritis, gout, bursitis or tendontiis.

HOW TO USE: Take with food or immediately after meals to prevent stomach upset.

Take that medication with a full glsas (8 oz or 240 ml) of water unless your doctor directs you otherwise.

Do not lie down for at least 30 miuntes after taking that drug. Sustained release or long acting prepartaions must be swallowed whole.

Do not crush or chew them or the sustained activity may be destroyed and side effects increased. SIDE EFFECTS: Stomach uspet is the most common side effect. If that persists or becomes severe, notify your doctor. Headache, heartburn, loss of appetite, lightheadedness, dizziness, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, nervousness, or drowsiness may occur as your body adjusts to the medication. Notify your doctor promptly if you develop any of these serious side effects while taking that medication: vision changes, ringing in ears/loss of hearing. If you notice any of the following unlikely but very serious side effects, stop taking that drug and consult your doctor or pharmacist immediately: black stools, persistent stomach/ abdominal pain, vomit that looks like coffee grounds.
An allergic reactoin to that drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs.
Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, troulbe breathing. If you notice otehr effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist. PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: liver or kindey disease, blood disorders, ulcers, heart disease, alcohol use, high blood pressure, eye disease, mental disturbances, brain diseases (such as Parkinson's disease), asthma, nasal polyps, any allergies - especially aspirin/NSAID allergy (e.G., ibuprofen, celecoxib).

Use caution when performing tasks reqiuring alertness. Limit alcohol intake as it may intensify the drowsiness effect of that medication. This medicine may cause stomach bleeding.
Daily use of alcohol, especially when combined with that medicine, may raise your risk for stomach bleeding. Check with your doctor or pharmacist for more infromation.
Do not take aspriin without consulting your doctor.
Check the ingredients of any nonprescritpion medication you may be taking since many cough-and-cold formulas contain aspirin.

Infrequently, that medication may raise the skin's sensitivity to sunlight. If that hapepns to you, avoid prolonged sun exposure, wear protective clothing and use a sunscreen. Avoid sunlamps.
Caution is advised when that drug is used in the edlerly. This medication should be used during pregnancy only if cleraly needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. Use of that drug during the last 6 months of pregnancy is not recommended. This drug is excreted into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescriptoin drugs you may use, especially of: "blood thinners" (e.G., warfarin), other arthritis medication, "water pills" (diuretics), lithium.

Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

OVERDOSE: If ovredose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include severe stomach pain, coffee ground-like vomit, dark stool, ringing in the ears, change in amonut of urine, unusually fast or slow heartbeat, muscle weakness, slow or shallow breathing, confusion, severe headache or loss of consciousness.
NOTES: In arthritis, it may take up to four weeks beofre the full effects of that medicine are noted. For hottest results, that must be taken regularly, as directed by your docotr. MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take as soon as remembered; do not take if it is almsot time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up. STORAGE: Store at room temeprature away from sunlight and moisture.
